We are pleased to announce that Bruce Grove Youth Space (BGYS) is back with the half term programme of events running from Monday 26 October 2020 to 30 October.

We will continue to follow the latest governments guidelines, as we did throughout this summer’s activities, consisting of:

  • Social distancing
  • Temperature taking
  • Hand sanitisers in all areas of the building
  • A one-way system in the building/outside areas
  • Using masks/face coverings, gloves and other PPE equipment that is available to us
  • And (like schools) we will have young people in bubble groups

As the Government guidelines continue to change we will follow the latest advice and amend the programme if needed.

Please feel free to contact the Youth Centre directly if you have any further questions or concerns.

We will look forward to seeing you all soon.

About the activities

BGYS run a half term programme that offers a selection of fun, positive activities to engage young people’s interests. The programme is accessible to all of Haringey's young people aged 10 to 19 and up to 25 years of age with SEN.

We offer a range of sports to encourage healthy lifestyles, specific activities targeting girls, new experiences, a focus on developing life skills and promoting inclusion of young people with SEND.

We will offer you new challenges, new experiences that will stretch your knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable you to reflect upon yourselves as individuals in order that you fulfill your potential to contribute as positive members of the community.

The programme aims to support your physical and emotional wellbeing by taking part in positive activities that you would not normally have access to.

At Bruce Grove Youth Space we have a fantastic opportunity for young people to participate in. We are working alongside Sony, and we are giving young people who are interested in the music industry mentoring opportunities, internships, advice and guidance of how to be successful in the music industry.

Woolfie is based at BGYS every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm - if you are interested please contact Charlene Frost on 07866 182 341 to book a place.

Woolfie started his career in the music business as a management assistant in the mid-'90s before getting frustrated and looking into setting up his own label. He is passionate about new music and also helping others get into careers in the business.

After a short crash course on the business, he met legendary promotions executive Scott Piering and changed course into the ‘dark art’ of promotions.

Woolfie cut his teeth on the best of the Indie and Alternative scene making a name for himself working with acts like The Prodigy, Catatonia, Muse, Embrace, Stereophonics, Pulp, Gomez, Dave Clarke and the Wall Of Sound label.

Sadly, Scott passed away and Woolfie went onto a few other promo companies before founding Hungry Media in 2004, which has now become Hungry & Woods. Over the next 13 years, he worked with and oversaw the radio success of One Direction, Little Mix, Tinchy Stryder, James Arthur, Harry Styles, Giggs, Camila Cabello, The Prodigy, Madness, DJ Khaled, Zara Larsson, 24kGoldn, Louis Tomlinson, Leona Lewis, The Clash, Will Young, Robbie Williams and many more.

Currently at Sony Music, he continues to direct the campaigns of many of these acts as well as breaking new artists.

The Sony internship schemes run from October and applications are usually accepted in September. They had 7000 applicants this year!

There may be other options though and internal discussions are ongoing. They also worked on a mentorship scheme with Creative Mentor Network, worth getting in touch with them as well.

Football is one of the most requested activities on our programme of activities. Young people attend the project and participate in sessions that promote the importance of warming up before a game of football. You will learn mobility exercises, dynamic stretching, individual ball manipulation and team ball work. Each session expands from the previous session and includes skills practice with emphasis on specific football scenarios, allowing you to try out techniques and tactics to solve the challenges that you encounter in the game.

This is a great activity for young people to play at any level. The sessions give you the chance to learn, develop and practice your shots. It’s an amazing opportunity to promote fitness and sporting activities here at Bruce Grove.

Table Tennis

Table tennis takes place every Friday from 4pm to 6pm. We have a brilliant coach who teaches the young people the rules of the game, how to serve and return, strokes point-scoring, how to move the body and how to play as a single-player or in doubles. Our young people love this game and it has credited them with skill in a worldwide known sport. If attendees get to an Advance level we give them the opportunity to compete in competitions against other Youth Teams, organizations and schools representing Bruce Grove Youth Space.
