Youth Work Volunteers
What is youth work?
Youth work enables young people to learn about themselves, others and society.
Youth work primarily targets those aged 13 -19, offering:
- quality support
- providing personal and social development opportunities, enabling their voice to be heard.
The role of the youth worker
The youth worker's job is to encourage and support young people to take decisions and exercise responsibility both within their project and in the wider community.
In all the different aspects of Haringey Youth Service, young people are encouraged to reflect on what they are doing and learning and how they can build on their experiences in other areas of their lives.
|Back to topWhere is youth work carried out?
The short answer is anywhere. Not all youth work takes place in youth centres. In practice youth work is carried out in different situations and locations using a range of approaches.
In Haringey, this includes
- dedicated youth centres and youth clubs
- community centres, schools
- outreach and detached workers
- leisure centres
- ball parks
- specialist settings for young people.
