Summer Uni

Body & Soul Fighting Fit & Boxing
Places:  60
Age Group:8–19 years
Access:  Monday 28th July 2008 – Friday 29th August 2008
Times:  12.00 to 6.00pm
Venue:  Seven Sisters Primary School, South Grove, Tottenham, N15 5QE
Activities: Young people will receive training on chinese boxing/sparring, and martial arts techniques, such as kung fu, tai chi, chi kung and meditation. Martial art style non contact techniques, punch, and kicks are combined into an areobic based work out. Young people will be tested on their skills and will undergo a grading system and various competitions. Trophies, Prizes, Certificates and ASDAN award are provided, as well as two training retreats for young people with the best performance/ or attendance in the project.

Basketball

Venue: Park View Academy, Langham road, London, N15
Activities: Basketball programme includes coaching and skills practice, team matches, competitions, and tournaments. Trophies, Sports items, Certificates and ASDAN Awards are provided as well as end of week incentive trips.

Activities: Young people mainly from the Somali community will benefit from additional tutoring support, access new sports and training facilities, counselling and cultural rehabilitation programme, have extramural education including sports, visits to history and science museums, country and residential trips.

Summer Playscheme
Places:  40
Age Group:  8 – 13 years
Access:  Monday 21st July 2008 – Friday 22nd August 2007
Times:  10am – 4pm (7pm on Fridays)
Venue:  Sport Academy - Northumberland Park Sports Centre
Activities: activities include fun with numbers and words, spelling bee, dance, signing, drama, sports/keep fit, arts and crafts, football/basketball, brain gym, healthy living, times past, role models, nursery rhymes, poetry, games/creative play, outdoor fun, safety on the streets, jewellery making etc. There will also be 2-3 trips per week to cinema, city farm, ice skating, bowling, museum, swimming, safari park, chessington and Thorpe park, and adventure island Southend.

Summer Theatre for Children and Young People

Activities: Haringey Shed Children's and Youth Summer Theatres will provide Haringey children and young people with high quality performing arts workshops taught by a team of inclusive theatre practitioners and directors from mainstream theatre leading to a high profile, professionally produced original musical theatre piece which will have two high-profile performances at the new Tottenham Sixth Form Centre on White Hart Lane. The workshops will focus on music, dance and drama. Simultaneously the children will learn social skills and gain self esteem while working in groups with children of all abilities and disabilities and from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.

Activities: Sports – basketball, football, outdoor climbing. Performing Arts – African & street dance drama, vocal training, and professional development. Development – leadership, youth issues, educational, world issue workshops. Trips will include going to the cinema, bowling, ice-skating, theatre and museum.  Everyone participating will take part in the bronze awrd.

In Transit Summer School

Age Group:  10-12 years
Access: Monday 28th July 2008 – Friday 8th August 2008
Times:  10.00am – 4.00pm
Venue:  Northumberland Park School, Trulock Road, Tottenham, N17 0PG
Activities: This two week programme is aimed to help young people to prepare for their transition from primary to secondary school. The programme will give the young people a clearer idea of what it is expected of them at secondary school, reduce their fear and anxieties and develop strategies to combat negative influences from peers. It will also develop a positive support system of peer support. Activities available will be: Maths, English, Science, Music, Dance and Fitness, Arts & Crafts, Personal Development, Swimming, African Drumming, Singing, Circle Time, Brain Gym and and a range of sporting activities. There will be PSHE & Citizenship sessions looking at how to deal with bullying effectively, confidence-building, problem solving, thinking skills, time management, anti-social behaviour and the link between nutrition and behaviour. Accreditation in active citizenship, the arts awards and AQAs will be provided.

City Meets Countryside
